Questions About Custom Oyster Knives

Read answers to some of the common questions we get from customers about our engraved oyster knives. Don’t see your question? Send us your question.

How long will it take for me to receive my custom oyster knives?

Normal production time is about two weeks. However, depending on capacity, we can accommodate rush situations. Just let us know when you need your order and we'll do everything we can to meet your deadline.

Will I receive a free proof after I place my order??

Yes. Whether we are designing your art from scratch or using a design you provided, we will send you a digital proof for your approval prior to production.

Can I order a sample oyster knife before placing my larger order?

Please email us if you need a physical sample and we'll help with your sample order. We just ask that you cover the cost of shipping for the random sample.

What is the size of the engraving area? What will and won't fit on my oyster knife handles?

The usable area on our Frenchman style knife is 1.5 inches wide by 0.5 inches high. Our New Haven knife has a usable decoration area of 2 inches wide by 0.5 inches high. You will want to avoid small details and very small text. The bigger the text and bolder the elements in your design, the better it will translate to the finished engraving. Please email your design if you want us to take a look at it and make our professional recommendations.

What is the engraving area on the custom shucking blocks?

The engraving area is 3 inches wide x 2.5 inches tall.

How do I clean my oyster knives?

We recommend hand washing with soap and water and immediately fully drying with a towel. You can use a food-safe butcher block oil on the wood handle if you like. Do not run through the dishwasher.

Can you do unique names or information on each item?

For an additional fee, yes. We commonly do this for bridal parties and groomsmen gifts. Please call or email us for specific information and pricing.
